Figured since i try to keep my ears open on the music scored for an action movie, i wanted to ask you folks three questions :
1.) Do you pay attention to the music while watching an action movie?
2.) What kind(s) of role(s) do you think it plays in the movie? For you, does it add even more action than there already is to the movie?
3.) What movie(s) to you have the most memorable music to it? ______________________ 1.) i always try to keep my ears open on it since it's part of my personal criteria in terms of what i think defines an action movie. It can be hard though because of how intense the action can be in the movie i'm watching...sometimes i get so into the action i forget there is music to the movie!
2.) i think simply enough the music makes the movie even more exciting than it already is. i think it adds that last "oomph" (spelling? lol) to a movie. And if the music is memorable enough, i think you might end up talking about the music that goes along with that movie for as long as you wanted to.
3.) My list can be very long. A lot depends on your definition of what movies "qualify" as an action movie. i'll list the following for now but there will be more i can add to my list. This is based off of movies that i personally feel can be counted as action movies:
Predator, Rambo, Prometheus, Batman (the 1989 version), The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park, any James Bond movie, Star Wars series...that's what i can think of right now off the top of my head.

Without a doubt, when I think action music Raiders comes tom mind. I hear Indiana's theme as he gallops on horse back or climbs aboard the sub, yeah, no doubt.
Great question!

Brian Tyler has been doing an amazing job composing for action films of recent. In addition to Rambo (2008) and both Expendables films - he did a great job on Fast Five. As a matter of fact he has some awesome videos on his site of recording the music for Fast Five with orchestra and corvette engine.
